Interpreting

With the qualified interpreters Kristin von Randow and Christiane Biskup, Civit’ is specialised in German, English and French, but we can also provide services in other languages such as Spanish, Italian and Russian. We would be delighted to assemble a team of professional, dedicated conference interpreters who are well-matched for the particular needs of your event and, of course, for the languages you require.

Do you also need interpreter’s booths and conference technology for your event? And would you like an all-in-one service that includes interpreters and the necessary equipment? We would be happy to organise the required equipment for you in cooperation with dependable equipment providers – interpreter’s booths, sound equipment, headphones, microphones or tour-guide systems for simultaneous whispered interpreting, for example. Make life easier for yourself by using our reliable service that is tailored to meet your needs!

Your requirements for interpreters and the appropriate conference technology can best be identified by talking with us on the telephone, so simply give us a call or else tell us about your needs by using our enquiry form.

We would be delighted to send you a no-obligation quotation!

Simultaneous interpreting

Simultaneous interpreting – also referred to as conference interpreting – is mainly used at international conferences, meetings and press conferences, and for radio and television interviews.

Simultaneous interpreting: Conference interpreters listen to the speakers’ words and render them into the target language as quickly as possible. The intended audience then hears the interpreted version with a minimal time delay. The source language is rendered simultaneously, preserving the meaning of the original speech. This type of interpreting requires the use of interpreter’s booths and conference equipment, which we would be glad to help provide.

In whispered interpreting, the interpreter ‘whispers’ the target-language version to the audience either with or without the aid of a tour-guide system. Whispered interpreting is typically employed for small groups for factory tours, trips by delegations, training courses or in cases where interpreting is only required for one or two participants. If you wish, you can also ask us to provide a tour-guide system.

Practical tips

If your event will last longer than one hour, you will need two interpreters for every language combination, who will then alternate with each other every half-hour. Three interpreters may be necessary for each language pair for very long events that last longer than 6 or 7 hours or in the case of very specialised conferences.

Interpreter’s booths are required for the interpreters for events such as conferences. These must be positioned in such a way that the interpreters have a clear view of the speakers and of any presentations being displayed at all times.

Copies of manuscripts for spoken material and of presentations are essential for the interpreters to be able to prepare for their work. Be sure to provide these to the interpreters well in advance! When interpreters are able to prepare well, they can then ensure that your conference participants will be able to communicate smoothly and successfully.

Please also remember that if you plan to make recordings of the interpreted speech, these recordings will be subject to copyright by the interpreter – you will thus need the interpreter’s permission before making or using these recordings. In such cases, an additional fee for recordings will be charged (with the exception of market research, radio or television work, or recordings that are strictly for internal use).

Consecutive interpreting

Consecutive interpreting is considered to be the ultimate challenge for interpreters, as it requires analytical thought and a structured approach alongside a good memory and strong note-taking skills.

While a speaker delivers a speech, your guests will hear the interpreted version of the contents of this speech in segments: the interpreting is performed in the pauses where the speaker stops to allow the interpreter to render the spoken material into the target language. This type of interpreting is typically used for ceremonial events, readings and for negotiations too.
